OS/browser shortcuts may intercept; layout and keyboard firmware affect events

How to use this test
  1. Start capture, focus the keyboard surface and press individual keys.
  2. Press individual keys or combinations as described. Browser and system shortcuts may be intercepted.
  3. Press Escape or Stop capture to release capture, then review received events.
Checks included in this tool
Keyboard Ghosting Test

Inspect missing or unexpected multi-key events. The browser cannot infer which unreported keys you intended to press. Missing events may be intercepted by the OS or browser rather than lost by the keyboard.

  1. Hold a known key combination and compare the received codes with the keys you are physically holding.
  2. Press individual keys or combinations as described. Browser and system shortcuts may be intercepted.
  3. Press Escape or Stop capture to release capture, then review received events.

N-Key Rollover Test

Observe simultaneous key combinations. A particular combination being observed does not certify universal N-key rollover across every switch combination.

  1. Hold increasing key combinations and review the peak simultaneous received keys.
  2. Press individual keys or combinations as described. Browser and system shortcuts may be intercepted.
  3. Press Escape or Stop capture to release capture, then review received events.

Only observed combinations verified; browser cannot certify universal N-key rollover

Keyboard Chatter Test

Inspect repeated key-event sequences. The under-40 ms heuristic flags event sequences for review. Auto-repeat, intentional input and scheduling mean it cannot diagnose switch chatter.

  1. Press and release the same key deliberately, then inspect rapid non-repeat sequences.
  2. Press individual keys or combinations as described. Browser and system shortcuts may be intercepted.
  3. Press Escape or Stop capture to release capture, then review received events.

Key repeat, debounce and scheduler effects prevent automatic switch-fault diagnosis

Key Response Test

Inspect key event timing and live response. Event-to-event intervals describe software delivery. Without an external actuation reference they cannot measure physical keyboard latency.

  1. Press keys at different intervals and inspect the latest delivered event timing.
  2. Press individual keys or combinations as described. Browser and system shortcuts may be intercepted.
  3. Press Escape or Stop capture to release capture, then review received events.

Software event intervals only; no physical input latency claim

How it works & what results mean

How the test works

Observe keyboard events and key codes. It uses KeyboardEvent; composition/focus events. The workspace shows observations from this browser or asks for your own confirmation.

Understanding your result

Highlighted code positions correspond to received browser events. Printed legends, layouts, IME and system-reserved shortcuts may differ. OS/browser shortcuts may intercept; layout and keyboard firmware affect events Missing data, blocked permission and an operation that could not run are shown separately. None establishes a hardware fault.

About this test & common questions

how to test keyboard keys online?

Use this keyboard test to see received key presses, inspect held combinations and check repeat events. Keyboard ghosting and rollover checks share one workspace.

can an online keyboard test detect every broken key?

Reserved shortcuts and browser event handling can prevent keys from reaching the page; missing events alone do not prove a broken switch.
